We are a Connected Church partner with the Cambodian Hope Organization (CHO) in Poipet, Cambodia - a Christian NGO that was founded in 2002 in the commune of Poipet. It was initially set up to address the issue of child trafficking in order to reduce its impact in the Ou Chrov and Malai districts of the Banteay Meanchey Province, but since 2002, CHO has grown to target other social groups including single parents, families affected by HIV and individuals in need of vocational training and support. CHO currently runs nearly a dozen different projects across the Cambodian border towns and employs over eighty skilled members of staff.

In their latest update, CHO say:

In response to the Coronavirus pandemic, Cambodia went into lockdown in mid March and the country’s borders were closed too. Since then, thousands of people have been without work and many are unable to provide for their family’s daily needs.

At Cambodian Hope Organisation (CHO), we have provided around 300 families with food, hand sanitisers, soap and face masks; thanks to donations from our brothers and sisters in Christ. The challenge for us is that there are so many more in need that we are unable to help, but we trust that God will provide for his people.
Churches are not able to meet because of the lockdown. So instead, we did a lot of home visits. Our staff are always mindful of keeping a safe distance and protecting themselves by wearing masks and using hand sanitiser.

We are also working with community health workers and volunteers to educate households about the virus and how to protect ourselves from it.  We were able to provide 80 staff, volunteers, and health workers with masks and hand sanitiser for when they visited people. We continue to raise awareness of Coronavirus in remote villages. The challenge is that some people are aware of the virus but are not protecting themselves, which is why raising awareness in every village remains our priority.

At this difficult time, we know that God is in control. He sees our sorrows and struggles, and we remember that he is always there beside us. He loves us and helps us during a time of great difficulty.  Please pray

  • That we will have the resources to provide more food for the people in need.
  • For all the people affected by Coronavirus, pray for their health and recovery.
  • For peace around the world especially in the hearts of all the people living in fear of Coronavirus.
  • For Cambodia as the country works out how to help its people recover from the damage Coronavirus has caused to individuals' livelihoods and the country’s economy.
  • For all our partners and staff to stay encouraged in their faith
